A satellite of mass 50 kg is orbiting the earth at height of 1000 km (as measure above the surface of the earth) . The mass of the earth is 5.98 x 10^24 kg and the earth’s radius is 6.38 x 10^6 m .

A. Find the speed of the satellite in its orbit.

B. If this orbit were decreased, by some external mechanism, by 100km, would the speed of the satellite increase or decrease ? Why ?

The earth’s moon has a radius of 1.76 x 10^6 m and mass of 7.35 x 10^22 kg .

A. Calculate the acceleration due to gravity (g) on the moon .

B. How long would it take for a mass of 1 kg to fall a distance of 2m to the surface of the moon ?G = 6.673 x 10^-11 Nm^2 / Kg^2
